nrc-foss convened a meeting of members of the indian f/oss community on 24.3.2007. The purpose was to get feedback from the community as to what we should do and how we should go about it. The response was good and especially the pre-lunch session was very lively. Details are here: http://nrcfosshelpline.in/fossconsult/

So nothing on FOSS in Education????

In the agenda I see a lot about FOSS in Business, FOSS in eGovernance, FOSS in X, FOSS in Y but no FOSS in Education which I feel should have been given some space if not "High Importance" as I would do. That makes me feel really sad. Has NRCFOSS become a govt babu thingi also????

you tell me after thoroughly checking out http://nrcfosshelpline.in/code/. I am very surprised that *you* of all people would raise a query like this. As for the 'babu thingi' - are you serious? do you really think so?

I was refering to the Floss Consult agenda! Yes, I agree that students are getting involved. But having had a Floss Big shots meet, I felt it would have been really ideal to have discussed "Floss in Education" especially with people like gora, Idg and the likes around. With the govt babu thingi, there was a "general" talk that there was a lot of talking with very less action points/conclusions put down.

Kindly request you not to take this as a personal attack but a person who _is_ very much concerned about Indian Education system.

a lot of the discussion *was* on education which is our main focus and is about 90% of what we do. We are pretty comfortable with what we are doing in this sphere, and wanted to know what we could do in other areas which we had not touched on much. As far as education goes, the main emphasis was the nuts and bolts of taking the pilot done in Tamilnadu to the rest of the country. Quite a few arrangements to do that were done in the meet. And, yes, i shouldnt have barked at you - there was nothing about education in this agenda because, as i have said, we have got lots of feedback from the community on this - with little or no feedback on the other things.

no. and we didnt invite another 150-200 people who should have been invited.

I thought you would've sent out public invites since you said "indian f/oss community". Turns out that the BSDs go under-represented in most of our foss meetings and there are very few people who do _real_ FOSS work, let along with the BSDs.

there was a bsd guy - and check out this: http://nrcfosshelpline.in/code/wiki/FossElectivesSyllabus under COMMENTS. We would love to encourage BSD, but we need the BSD community to get in touch with us, or, rather we need to get in touch with the BSD community. Can you facilitate this?

> Can you facilitate this?

Yes. I can try and do that. What do you want me to do?

how about an all india bsd meet?

There was also a BSD girl.

the bsd guy i was refering to was a girl

when is NRC-FOSS winding up?

project gets over on 31.3.2008

I wish I could have made it. I like the way things were coordinated through the wiki. I am still going through the wiki pages.

Still don't see the minutes of the meetings :-( . Any plans of putting on the wiki or posting it on the mailing list ?

rough minutes are here:

these are the notes made during the meeting and displayed on the screen as and when the points were made. Currently editing priveledges are restricted to the participants, but will be thrown open to the public after the participants have had a chance to add/modify things here.
