we have a rock star
on IRC the other day, someone was complaining that the Indian FOSS movement needs rock stars to attract contributors of code. We have one - Abhas Abhinav of deeproot. Admitedly he doesnt look like a rock star. Clean shaven, short hair, dresses like a suit. But his company has released it's core product under GPL a couple of months ago. Around 10,000 downloads and users Queueing up. Several of them have already paid for support. He is Bangalore based, but is opening branches in Kochi and Ahmedabad this month to be followed by Chennai and, would you believe Europe? An Indian exporting software to Europe - and attracting developers from all around the world? I dont know what his taste in music is (maybe he *does* have a wild nightlife), but he is certainly showing the way. Go deeproot go!

Is it DeepOfix which has become a hit? Yes, AA has been toiling for a long with his startup. I came to know about deeproot from developer iq mag debian cds, then over a couple of free software meetup at blore. Good to know about their success. way to go, AA.
